Materials

Small amount of Stylecraft Special DK in Colour 1

Small amount of Stylecraft Special DK Yarn in Colour 2

OR

Small amount of Light Worsted Weight #3 in Color 1

Small amount of Light Worsted Weight #3 in Color 2

• F 3.75mm hook– gives 3 ½ to 3 ¾” sole length
• G 4.5mm hook—gives 4 ¼” sole length
• G 4.25mm hook—gives 4” sole length or slightly less
• All are about 2” to 2 ¼” width of sole
• I use G 4.5mm hook for 0-3mo size

GAUGE – 5hdc and 3 rows measure approx 1 Inch using 4.00mm hook

Starting with Sole and color 1, ch11, (RS) 3hdc in 4th ch from hook, 1hdc in each of next 6ch, 8hdc in last ch, working on opposite side of cast on ch, work 1hdc in each of next 6ch, 4hdc in last ch, sl st to top of the ch3 on beginning of row. DNT.

(27hdc + ch2)

Second Round – ch2, work 2hdc in each of next 3hdc, 1hdc in each of next 8hdc, 2hdc in each of next 6hdc, 1hdc in each of next 8hdc, 2hdc in each of last 2hdc, 1hdc in base of ch2, sl st to top of ch2. DNT. (39hdc + ch2).

Third Round – ch2, skip first hdc, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in base of ch2, sl st to top of ch2. DNT. [40hdc + ch2]

Fourth Round – Working in back loop of stitch only, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each hdc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. (40sc)

Fifth Round – Working through both loops ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. Rpt last row twice. Fasten off. [40stitches]

Instep – With RS facing, color 2 and counting from where you fastened off, skip9 sc, rejoin yarn with a sl st to next sc, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next 21sc. Turn leaving 9sc un-worked. (22sc)

Next Row – (Dec Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dec 1sc over next 2sc, (see abbrev) 10 times, 1sc in last sc. Turn. (12sc)

Next Row -(Dec Row) ch1_, 1sc in base of ch1_, dec1sc over next 2sc, 5 times, 1sc in last sc. Turn.(7sc)

Next Row – Insert hook and pull up loop in each of next 7sc, yo and pull through all loops on hook, ch1 to close. Fasten off.

Top –

Row 1:  With toe towards you and RS facing join in color 1 with a sl st to top of instep, starting with ch1, work 4sc evenly across first half of top of instep, 1sc in each of the next 18sc (around first side of foot, heel and second side of foot), 4sc evenly across second half of top of instep. Join in top of 1st stitch.  Turn. (26sc)

Starting with ch1, work one row of 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.  [26]

Eyelet Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next sc, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 2sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (8, ch2 spaces)

Skip first 4 stitches, Starting with ch1, work 1sc in each sc and ch2 space to end. Turn. (26sc) Work 3 rows of 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.

Cuff

Next Row – Working in back loop of stitch ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn. [26 stitches]

Next Row – Working through both loops of stitch from now on work three more rows of sc. [26 stitches]

Edging – ch1, 2sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to last sc, 3sc in last sc, work 1sc in each row end down first side of split, sl st in top of instep, 1sc in each row end up second side of split, 1sc in base of ch1, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Sole Edging

Using free loops of Round 4 of sole, join MC with sl st, ch1, sl st around, sl stitch into ch1.  Fasten Off.

Chain Tie – ch84, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sl st into each ch to end. Fasten off

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, thread chain tie through eyelet holes on ankle and tie in a bow, fold down top.

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

Sole Length 3.5-4 inches

Material
DK CAT #3 baby yarn MC and CC colors

3.50mm Crochet Hook F for body of bootie

4.50mm Crochet Hook G for cuff

GAUGE – 6sc and 6 rows of sc measures approx 1 inch

Starting at cuff and working down to toe of booties

Cuff – With contrast color yarn and G hook 4.5mm, ch8, 1sc in second ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (7sc)

Next Row – Working in back loop of stitch only, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.

Rpt last row until 24 rows have been worked in all.

Fold piece in half (bottom to top) so that the short sides of both ends are lined up, sl st through both sides of work to make a ring. Fasten off.

Leg – Join in CC color yarn and F hook 3.75mm, working in row ends along side of ring, ch1, 1sc in each row end to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (22sc) This is 2sc less than cuff rows.  Ease down to 22 sc.  This makes cuff easier to fold down later.

Next Row – In MC color yarn, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt last row eight more times, making 10 rows in all. Fasten off.

Heel – Join in contrast color yarn, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 11sc, turn leaving remaining 10sc un-worked.

Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn. (12sc)

Rpt last row twice more, making four rows in all.

Next Row – (Dec Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 3sc, dec (see the abbrev) 1sc over next 2sc, (twice) 1sc in each of next 4sc. Turn. (10sc)

Next Row – (Dec Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 3sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 4sc. Turn. (9sc)

With WS facing fold heel in half length ways and sl st to together both sides of top (row just worked) to seal heel. Fasten off.

Bottom to toe:

Next row – Join in main color yarn to first row end (next to the sl st edge you have just created), ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, working in row ends along first side of heel, work 1sc in each of next five row ends, 1sc in each of next 10sc along foot, 1sc in each of next six row ends on second side of heel, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (22sc)

Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt last row 12 more times, making 14 rows in all. Fasten off.

Join in contrast color yarn and rpt last row twice.

Shape Toe –Ch1, sc around. Turn. [22sc]  Rpt last row twice. Fasten off leaving length of yarn in CC color. Working on WS of work, thread length of yarn through last row to gather toe. Pull tight and secure end. .  Sew together any opening in toe.

Finishing:  Weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim.  Turn through to RS and fold down cuff.

Crochet Cuffed — 0 to 3 month Socks

Written in standard American terms.

Skill level – easy

NOTES:

• Use “H” hook 5mm
• Use DK yarn Cat 3 [mostly cotton, if possible]
• Worked mostly in round.
• Join with sl st at end of each row except where told not to do so.
• Do not turn unless told to do so.
• Ch1 at beginning of each round.  1^st stitch is at base of that ch.
• Make 2 socks.
• Need a stitch marker

Round 4 – *sc in next 3sc, Inc using next sc*, repeat * to * around (20)

Rounds 5 to 16 – Sc in each st around (20)

Heel:
