{"id":45,"date":"2017-05-20T23:04:46","date_gmt":"2017-05-21T04:04:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rhsaas-org.net\/Rhsaas-Org-Site\/z-POSTS\/?p=45"},"modified":"2017-06-20T11:22:43","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T16:22:43","slug":"reunion-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rhsaas-org.net\/Rhsaas-Org-Site\/z-POSTS\/reunion-poem\/","title":{"rendered":"Reunion Poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reunion Poem<br \/>\nSource: unknown<\/p>\n<p>Every five years, as summertime nears,<br \/>\nAn announcement arrives in the mail,<br \/>\nA reunion is planned; it\u2018ll be really grand;<br \/>\nMake plans to attend without fail.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2018ll never forget the first time we met;<br \/>\nWe tried so hard to impress.<br \/>\nWe drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,<br \/>\nAnd wore our most elegant dress.<\/p>\n<p>It was quite an affair; the whole class was there.<br \/>\nIt was held at a fancy hotel.<br \/>\nWe wined, and we dined, and we acted refined,<br \/>\nAnd everyone thought it was swell.<\/p>\n<p>The men all conversed about who had been first<br \/>\nTo achieve great fortune and fame.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses<br \/>\nAnd how beautiful their children became.<\/p>\n<p>The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,<br \/>\nNow weighed in at one-ninety-six.<br \/>\nThe jocks who were there had all lost their hair,<br \/>\nAnd the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.<\/p>\n<p>No one had heard about the class nerd<br \/>\nWho\u2018d guided a spacecraft to the moon;<br \/>\nOr poor little Jane, who\u2018s always been plain;<br \/>\nShe married a shipping tycoon.<\/p>\n<p>The boy we\u2018d decreed \u201cmost apt to succeed\u201d<br \/>\nWas serving ten years in the pen,<br \/>\nWhile the one voted \u201cleast\u201d now was a priest;<br \/>\nJust shows you can be wrong now and then.<\/p>\n<p>They awarded a prize to one of the guys<br \/>\nWho seemed to have aged the least.<br \/>\nAnother was given to the grad who had driven<br \/>\nThe farthest to attend the feast.<\/p>\n<p>They took a class picture, a curious mixture<br \/>\nOf beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.<br \/>\nTall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini;<br \/>\nYou never saw so many thighs.<\/p>\n<p>At our next get-together, no one cared whether<br \/>\nThey impressed their classmates or not.<br \/>\nThe mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;<br \/>\nBy this time we\u2018d all gone to pot.<\/p>\n<p>It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores;<br \/>\nWe ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.<br \/>\nThen most of us lay around in the shade,<br \/>\nIn our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.<\/p>\n<p>By the fortieth year, it was abundantly clear,<br \/>\nWe were definitely over the hill.<br \/>\nThose who weren\u2018t dead had to crawl out of bed,<br \/>\nAnd be home in time for their pill.<\/p>\n<p>And now I can\u2018t wait; they\u2018ve set the date;<br \/>\nOur fiftieth is coming, I\u2018m told.<br \/>\nIt should be a ball, they\u2018ve rented a hall<br \/>\nAt the Shady Rest Home for the old.<\/p>\n<p>Repairs have been made on my hearing aid;<br \/>\nMy pacemaker\u2018s been turned up on high.<br \/>\nMy wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;<br \/>\nAnd I\u2018ve bought a new wig and glass eye.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2018m feeling quite hearty, and I\u2018m ready to party<br \/>\nI\u2018m gonna dance \u2018til dawn\u2018s early light.<br \/>\nIt\u2018ll be lots of fun; But I just hope that there\u2018s one<br \/>\nOther person who can make it that night.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reunion Poem Source: unknown Every five years, as summertime nears, An announcement arrives in the mail, A reunion is planned; it\u2018ll be really grand; Make plans to attend without fail.
