Hornby Area Hisory

Hornby is a town in Steuben County, New York, United States. The population was 1,742 at the 2000 census. The name is from John Hornby, a land owner of the Pulteney Tract.

The first settlers were Asa and Uriah Nash, in 1814. Much of the land was occupied by wild animals, including beavers that had two large dams at Bowers Creek as well as forests, creeks, and rivers. Dry Run is a small stream running through the town past Hornby village, and Post Creek runs through the southeast part of the town.
